Christian Bale is excellent

While poorly executed in places, overall the dialogue and story are enough to keep Harsh Times moving. The movie examines a couple days in the life of childhood friends who reunite for one last hurrah in their stomping grounds of East Los Angeles. Bale and Rodriguez have pretty solid chemistry playing the two buddies. Bale does well as a veteran on the verge of losing it but Rodriguez is excellent as his calmer, cooler counterpart.

I tend to dislike the kind of main characters this movie had, but it was a good and a dramatic story.

Christian Bale does a good job as Jim.
