Shine, Glitter 'n Sparkle
... Now that's a way to describe Hairspray in a nutshell. As I started watching, I was pretty ready to see a 60's version of High School Musical - I'm not really sure if I did. But I'll have to say, it was pretty fun!
Tracy Turnblad loves dancing. She lives in Baltimore, and is crazy over a local TV show, the "Corny Collins show" and the heart-melting Link Larkin, who stars in the show as a singer/dancer. When a regular at the Corny Collins show drops out, they hold an audition and Tracy gets her chance to shine. From there on, it should all be shine, glitter 'n sparkle... But is it?
Having seen both of the High School Musicals before this one, I had certain expectations - and they hit the mark quite well. Not that it's bad, you just have to view Hairspray with a certain attitude. There's a lot of great dancing and really nice singing, all in the 60's fashion, of course, but if that is not a problem, I suggest that you see the movie; it is quite funny.
I'll have to say something about James Marsden too. I really liked his performance in Enchanted - and this one was also really good. Seeing that he's an accomplished singer, these kind of roles definitely bring out the best in him - how delightful.

I really liked this! Really cheering and pleasant! Made me want to move in the rythm of groovy music.. Tried to make some moves of my own as well. This girl can also shimmy shake it!

Not being too much of a fan of the 'musical stage show turned movie' genre, I was quietly surprised by Hairspray. I thought first time actress Nicole Blonsky was brilliant, as was most of the cast actually, but the stand out performer for me was the always brilliant John Travolta! Full marks for the films Choreography and Set Design.
