I really can't remember the last Will Smith movie that I didn't enjoy.. wait a minute.. I do, it was MIB2. But anyways, my point is, that I have been really impressed with his recent (and even not so recent) movies, including, I Am Legend, Hitch, The pursuit of happyness and of course the Enemy of the State. I actually expected Hancock to be a good film. It certainly had the potential.
But I found the story to be naive, overly straight-forward and lacking in imagination. Only once or twice this intended-to-be-drama succeeded in invoking any feelings at all.
Will Smith didn't bring out his charm the way I'm used to seeing it. Charlize Theron was stunning naturally, but wasn't that credible either. It just felt to me that the premises for the story, were built with a too great of a hurry, which resulted in an empty feeling when watching. I didn't feel the characters and the drama remained hollow. The original script might have been decent, but there was definitely something lacking in the execution phase - maybe too many corners were cut.
I just think this is a waste of a good story. Too bad.
