I hated it and i liked it.. well done movie, but so traumatizing that i started question my own sanity...
Nothing special plotwise. Every twist just feels like a cliche. Effective atmosphere and solid performance by Leo.
Oddly intoxicating, but in a not so good way. Acting was well above average, especially Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese maintains to keep the intensity going almost until the end. Decent, haunting portrayal of what it's like when your world crumples and the aftermath of psychosis
Martin Scorcese and Dennis Lehane both know how to tell a story, and when they get together good things happen. Modern film, obsessed with shocking and outraging the audience, has had precious little room for well-realized mystery-thrillers that take their time and respect the audience; here is one.
This was a creepy movie, no doubt about it. Superb performance from DiCaprio, Kingsley, & Michelle Williams. Your head most likely hurt by the time the movie is over (in a good way). The ending is a love-hate one.

The film has a very "noirish" feel with the overbearing music, period acting, and cinematography. Not one of Scorcese's masterpieces, but it functions adequately and creates effective tension as the narrative unfolds. Leo shows good range here and is believable as an throughly obsessive and somewhat self-destructive character.
My rating of Shutter Island:
2 hours of best thrilling entertainment! A typical great shady movie by Martin Scorsese! It has a mind twisting story and the backgroundmusic just drags you directly onto the island. The pictures a great, some remind me of "Sin City" and not to mention the magnificient acting performance by DiCaprio.
