Throughout this valiant attempt at remaking one of Universal's classic monster movies, there are hints that it could have been more. Del Toro is appropriately haunted, Hopkins is capable of sinking his teeth into any role, and the eerie sets do their job well. But a lack of patience on the part of the filmmakers and sloppy special effects kill any tension this beast may have provided far more surely than a silver bullet.

One of the very few things that I don't find scary in movies are werewolves. The movie did, however, make me jump a few times.

Good old lycanthropy. Pretty intense, but the plot was naturally predictable. Good entertainment for any fan of the theme.

I really wanted this to be better. It was okay, but I'm glad I only spent $5 (early matinee). It won't enter my collection.
